4 Days Tours of Omo Valley tribes
Day 1: Addis Ababa to Jinka and the Mursi Tribe
Fly from Addis Ababa to Jinka. Upon arrival at Jinka Airport, drive immediately to a Mursi village. The Mursi, a distinctive ethnic group of the Lower Omo Valley, are famous for the clay plates (lip plates) worn by their women, which symbolize beauty and cultural identity. While primarily pastoralists, they also practice flood-retreat agriculture along the Omo River. We will observe their intricate body painting, scarification, and learn about their age-set social structure. Drive back to Jinka in the late afternoon.

Day 2: Jinka – Turmi – Omorate, Visiting Dassanech Tribes
Drive south to Turmi. The journey takes us through the traditional lands of the Bena and Tsemai tribes before arriving in Turmi, the heartland of the Hamer people. In the afternoon, continue driving to Omorate, situated on the banks of the Omo River. Here, we take a local boat across the river to visit a Dassanech village. The Dassanech are renowned for their unique and intricate personal adornments, often created using repurposed materials. After our visit, we return to Turmi.

Day 3: Turmi – Karo Tribe – Hamer Tribe
Drive to Korcho village to visit the Karo tribe. As one of the smallest ethnic groups in the Omo Valley, the Karo are famous for their elaborate and intricate body painting, utilizing locally sourced white chalk, black charcoal, yellow mineral rock, and red ochre to express beauty and social status. They are primarily flood-retreat agriculturists, hunters, and fishermen along the Omo River banks. The afternoon is dedicated to an immersive experience with the Hamer tribe. We will either visit a traditional Hamer village to observe their daily life, or, if available, attend a vibrant local tribal market or witness the spectacular Bull Jumping Ceremony.

Day 4: Turmi – to Addis Ababa
In the morning, drive from your accommodation to Jinka Airport for your scheduled domestic flight back to Addis Ababa.
